Working meeting of ALSAI Chairman, Mr.Bujar Leskaj with : Mrs.St.Laurent, Mr.Blockwood dhe Mr. Chuck Young. GAO,Washington D.C, 5 February 2020

On February 5-th 2020, ALSAIs Chairman Mr. Bujar Leskaj and the Director General, Mr. Rinald Muça visited the US Government Accountability Office (GAO). The purpose of the visit was to discuss about the cooperation over the past 6 years, with a focus on continuing the ALSAI auditors' training in the U.S fellowship program, to present the two most recent ALSAI publications on GAO, respectively "GAO, NIK and Dodaro Lectures" and "GAO, INTOSAI Leader (Working Papers)".Also, the work and progress of ALSAI in performance audits is presented to the US colleagues, specifically on results of performance audit on 5G technology, an issue for which the ALSAI management participated in the Cyber Security forum organized in the U.S Senate on February 3-d 2020.

GAO was represented at this meeting by Mr. James-Christian Blockwood, Managing Director of the Strategic Planning and External Liaison Office Mr. Chuck Young, Managing Director of the Office of Public Affairs, Mr. Timothy Bowling, Chief Quality Officer of GAO and Managing Director of the Audit Policy and Quality Assurance team, Mr. Michael Hix, Director of International Relations, Mr. Mark Keenan and Mrs.Brenda Fernandez, Fellowship Program Managers and Mrs.Janet St Laurent, Director of the Centre for Audit Excellence.

In his speech, Mr. Leskaj focused on the great role that GAO and especially Mr. Gene Dodaro has played for the INTOSAI community and specifically for Albania. ALSAI and Albania have found to GAO and USA a historical and strategic partnership, in this regard, the two publications were formally presented to the GAOs colleagues, as the recognition, appreciation and practical implementation of the INTOSAI motto.The U.S colleagues, after introduction with the English summary of the publications and especially of the publication of Mr. Leskaj "GAO, NIK and Dodaro lectures", appreciated the ALSAI staff and Mr. Leskaj for this special assessment, which comes in the light of the ongoing publications that ALSAI has performed and will continue to do for GAO. Mr. Leskaj summarized the institutional dynamic performance in figures and facts over the years.

Mr. Muça presented the work of the performance audit department, past and future challenges and areas where GAOs colleagues could contribute to Albanian Auditors to fulfil their mission in the service of the citizens. U.S colleagues express their strong support for ALSAI and for the audit staff, sharing their experience in impacting audit reports on stakeholders, as well as their commitment to assist long-term trainers with new auditors.

The meeting was held in a warm and friendly spirit and GAO colleagues following the requests of the ALSAI Chairman, promised to support with professional lecturers to the ALSAI and continuing the previous practice on training of Albanian young auditors at the GAOs office.
