The Supreme State Audit

       

ASAI, in Cooperation with strategic partners, NAO of Great Britain, Netherlands Court of Audits, organized in the city of Pogradec a seminar on the Performance Audit for the Project Enforcement: “Preservation of Lake Ohrid”

 

In this seminar were present also group of auditors from the Macedonian SAI.

 

The main objective of this audit was the conclusions of World Bank’s project, by comparing the situation before and after the conclusion of this project with the current situation.

 

The World Bank, represented by GEF, contributed with a sum of $4.1 million, out of which: 1.8 million for the Albanian Government and 2.26 million for the Macedonian pair.

 

The topics of discussions and speeches of this seminar consisted in the creation of “a possibility of international exchange of ideas” between experts of both pairs of borders, with the only aim of protecting and preserving the inalienable values of the fauna and flora of the Lake Ohrid .

 

The ASAI heads and experts underlined that during the performance audit, it was ascertained a population growth in the Lake Ohrid area, as well as an increase in urban sewage shedding in the Lake Ohrid .

 

After the careful analyses of technical indicators, ASAI experts concluded that the environmental situation of the draw was almost unchanged, in comparison with the situation before and after project conclusions of World Bank.

 

Our experts recommended as main conclusion to:

  • Draw of a general urban, regional, and environmental plan, for the prevention of overpopulation of this region.
  • Take measures to conclude within the deadline of the plant for the refinement and treatment of urban sewage, in all the urban areas near the draw.
Furthermore, ASAI heads and experts asked for the intervention of authorities, and all the respective state structures, as well as for the awareness of public opinion, in order to take the measures for the prevention of such negative phenomena.
 

The seminar organized by ASAI, had a wide audience as from the local media, different NGO representatives, and high officials from the local authorities.
